A LOOK INTO HALEAKALA

Inside Haleakala.

Haleakala stands 10,023 ft. above sea level. The volcano is still considered active but last erupted in 1790 about the same time a brand new country was adopting a constitution and the Bill of Rights which would shape the world so much in the future. Sorry! A little bit of the teacher comes out in me sometimes. The crater is the size of Manhattan. Sunrise up here is a spectacle to be seen. Many people journey here every morning. Be warned though that even in summer it is cold and possibly raining. In the winter the top has had snow. Many people brave these conditions to see the sunrise which breaks through the clouds in a panorama of light and colors. Afterwards some of the visitors jump on bikes and begin the trip of a lifetime to the bottom. As you emerge out of the clouds on your bike it is something else and can only be experienced.
