The forces of nature at work. Lava flowing down the slopes of Kilauea. The Big Island of Hawaii continues to grow as the lava makes it's way to the sea. On each island the flows have stopped as the plates of the earth's crust have moved Southeast. On neigboring Maui, Haleakala last erupted in 1790. Eventually all the activity on the Big Island of Hawaii will stop as more islands grow further out.
